Minister Harbhajan Singh : PWD is upgrading 22 state roads, spanning 745 kilometers, through long-term maintenance contracts.
Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has instructed all department officers to strictly follow the established norms during the bidding process and ensure the highest quality standards in their work execution. He also stressed the importance of speeding up the collection of state revenue from access fees from commercial establishments, such as petrol pumps, along the roads, and ensuring proper record-keeping of these accesses.
Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of major infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD) across the state and to plan for future developments. The meeting was attended by Secretary PWD Ravi Bhagat, along with all Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers of PWD B&R.
During the meeting, in-depth discussions took place to assess the progress in relation to the budget allocations and the actual implementation of works at the project sites. The PWD Minister also instructed the officers to accelerate the completion of ongoing projects and ensure that both physical and financial targets are achieved. He emphasized the importance of completing projects on time and maintaining high standards throughout all infrastructure work.
The PWD Minister was informed that, in addition to various other initiatives, the department is currently upgrading 22 state roads, covering 745 kilometers, under long-term maintenance contracts with a budget of Rs 532 crore. Roads being upgraded include Bhawanigarh-Mehlan Chowk, Patran-Moonak, Gharaun Ambala, Zira-Ferozepur, Old Morinda Road, Mukerian-Talwara-Mubarikpur, and Dakha-Halwara-Raikot-Barnala, among others. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the state’s road infrastructure and improve transportation. It was also mentioned that funds for Link roads are anticipated from the Punjab Mandi Board soon, and work on these roads will commence shortly.
PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, to improving the state’s infrastructure while ensuring the highest quality and efficiency in all projects.
