The Ministry of Tourism recognizes the potential of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in tackling skill development issues within the hospitality industry and has implemented the following measures
The Ministry of Tourism formed a Task Force consisting of industry experts and academic leaders from IHMs to assess the curriculum of hospitality courses and address issues related to the branding and marketing of these courses. To achieve the goal of developing individuals and professionals who embody the highest standards of hospitality, service, and care, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between 21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management and 8 prominent hospitality groups. These groups included Indian Hotels Company Ltd, IHG Hotels and Resorts, Marriott Hotels, Lalit Hotel Group, ITC Hotels, Lemon Tree Hotels, Apeejay Surender Park Hotels, and Radisson Hotel Group.
The industry-academia partnership is a pilot initiative with plans to expand, incorporating additional hospitality chains under the MOU. The agreement also focuses on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives within the institutes. This information was shared by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a written response in the Lok Sabha today.
