Transport Minister Uday Pratap conducted a review of the department’s activities.
Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh emphasized the importance of regular vehicle fitness checks for ensuring road safety. He also stressed the need for concrete measures to boost transport revenue. Transport Minister Uday Pratap was reviewing departmental activities during a meeting held at Mantralaya on Monday, which was attended by Transport Secretary Shri Manish Singh and Transport Commissioner Shri Vivek Sharma.
During the meeting, Transport Minister Uday Pratap directed that vacant positions within the department should be filled promptly and new recruitments should be completed within the set timeframe. It was shared that the total number of registered vehicles in the state is approximately 2 crore 34 lakh 44 thousand, with over 11 lakh 42 thousand 500 transport vehicles. Shri Singh instructed that the fitness process for vehicles older than 15 years be simplified. The state currently has five registered scrapping centers for old vehicles, with three in Bhopal and one each in Indore and Gwalior.
Pollution Control Certificate
The meeting also discussed the mandatory requirement of a Pollution Control Certificate to reduce environmental damage caused by vehicle emissions. To make this process more convenient, an online system for issuing Pollution Control Certificates, based on emission standards, was launched on August 1, 2024. In 2024, emissions from approximately 2 lakh 60 thousand vehicles were checked. Shri Singh instructed officers to ensure high-security number plates are installed on all vehicles.
Transport Revenue
It was mentioned that the Transport Department is targeting a revenue of Rs 5100 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25. As of December 2024, Rs 3350 crore has been collected. However, due to the rise in electric vehicles, the department’s income has seen a decline. The meeting also covered the Driver Training Center and Vehicle Location Tracking Device. Shri Singh instructed that as many four-wheel vehicles as possible should be included in the tracking program. Additionally, the Electronic Detailed Accident Report was discussed during the meeting.
