CM Mohan Yadav announced that Vikramotsav-2025 will begin in Ujjain on Mahashivratri, February 26, and continue until Varsh Pratipada on March 30, marking the start of the cosmic cycle. The festival will celebrate Emperor Vikramaditya’s era, India’s progress, cultural renaissance, and traditional wisdom.
The event will feature literary and cultural programs, astronomy discussions, intellectual seminars, history and science conventions, a Vikram Trade Fair, and folk and tribal cultural activities. Highlights include the launch of the Vikramaditya Vedic Clock App, exhibitions on handicrafts, textiles, traditional cuisine, and a regional and mythological film festival with special screenings dedicated to Lord Krishna.
An All India Kavi Sammelan, the release of research-based publications, and the Vikram Panchang (almanac) will also be part of the celebrations. Vikramotsav integrates cultural, social, and economic elements, offering a unique blend of heritage and modernity.
Grand Plans for Vikramotsav-2025
During the Vikramotsav-2025 Organizing Committee meeting at Samatva Bhavan, CM Mohan Yadav emphasized that the festival should reflect the grandeur of Emperor Vikramaditya’s legacy. He directed officials to ensure seamless preparations and welcome scholars, artists, and guests with the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava.” Special exhibitions will highlight Emperor Vikramaditya, India’s scientific traditions, and Devi Ahilyabai across Ujjain. Additionally, poets from tribal languages like Bhili and Gondi will be included in the Kavi Sammelan.
CM Mohan Yadav announced that songs, poetry, and literature focused on Emperor Vikramaditya would be honored. A National Science Conference will feature drone and robotics showcases, with participation from ISRO scientists and other research institutions. Science conventions will also be held across the Mahakaushal, Bundelkhand, and Baghelkhand regions.
He stressed the significance of Vikram Samvat as a testament to governance and strength, directing efforts to educate people about Emperor Vikramaditya’s legacy. A grand theatrical production on Emperor Vikramaditya, similar to “Jaanata Raja,” will be staged across Madhya Pradesh and other major Indian cities.
Major Events During Vikramotsav-2025
- February 26 (Mahashivratri): Grand inauguration with Shivratri fairs across the state, a Kalash Yatra in Ujjain featuring vintage cars, sports bikes, and tribal performances, and an exhibition on the 84 Mahadevas. CM Dr. Yadav will launch the Vedic Clock App, and a framework for Simhastha-2028 (Kumbh Mela) will be outlined. Cultural performances by tabla maestro Shivamani and folk singer Hansraj Raghuwanshi are scheduled.
- February 27: Exhibitions on Indian scientific traditions, Vikram-era coins, Krishna’s 64 arts, and Holi celebrations will be held. Displays on Emperor Vikramaditya, Ayodhya, ancient musical instruments, and Ahilyabai’s architecture will be showcased. A research symposium on Shaivism and a violin recital by Anupriya Deotale will be featured.
- March 1-3: Intellectual discussions on Emperor Vikramaditya’s judicial system.
