Punjab Vidhan Sabha approves ‘The Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025’
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha today approved ‘The Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025,’ which was introduced by Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal.
The bill seeks to amend the Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Act, 2020, specifically Section 6. Under the amendment, no individual shall be eligible to serve as Chairperson or Member of the Punjab Water Regulation and Development Authority if they have reached the age of 65. Additionally, the Chairperson or Members will serve a term not exceeding three years, with the possibility of an extension up to five years based on their performance, management capabilities, and initiatives.
Furthermore, as per the revised Section 9 of the 2020 Act, all fees, charges, and funds received by the Authority from any source, as determined by the government, will be deposited into the State Treasury.
