Under CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” Punjab Police carried out raids at 557 locations on Saturday, marking the 15th consecutive day of action against drug trafficking. The crackdown led to the arrest of 114 drug smugglers and the registration of 72 FIRs across the state, bringing the total number of arrests to 1,936 in just 15 days.
During the operation, authorities seized 945 grams of heroin, 43 kg of poppy husk, 3,098 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections, and ₹76,310 in drug money from those apprehended. The large-scale operation was conducted across all 28 police districts on the directives of Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has instructed police commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior superintendents of police to make Punjab a drug-free state within the next three months. To oversee these efforts, the Punjab government has also set up a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Providing further details, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla stated that over 250 police teams, comprising more than 1,600 personnel under the supervision of 103 gazetted officers, conducted the raids and checked 592 suspicious individuals during the day-long operation.
The Punjab government is implementing a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to systematically eliminate drug abuse from the state, with Punjab Police playing a key role in this mission.
