Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh : Responding to a call attention notice raised by MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh emphasized that the prescribed procedures must be adhered to for the inclusion of 12 gram panchayats from the Amritsar (North) constituency into the Amritsar Municipal Corporation.
Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh noted that Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had previously raised this issue during a meeting of the Panchayati Raj Institutions Committee on January 24, 2024. Following this, some of the 12 gram panchayats passed resolutions in February 2024, requesting their inclusion in the Municipal Corporation.
Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh further stated that new gram panchayats were formed after the elections held in October, and it would be appropriate for these newly constituted bodies to pass fresh resolutions regarding their inclusion.
Additionally, he mentioned that after the urban local body elections in December 2024, a new house for the Amritsar Municipal Corporation was established on January 28, 2025. Once the Corporation house passes a resolution supporting the inclusion of these gram panchayats, further action will be taken under Section 3(6) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976.
Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh also assured that the department remains in continuous coordination with the Deputy Commissioner and the Commissioner of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation on this matter.
