Punjab’s Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur has lauded the budget presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, calling it a significant step toward improving the lives of the common people, financially weaker families, and marginalized communities.
Minister Baljit Kaur highlighted that the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation (PSCFC) has announced a full waiver of loans taken until March 31, 2020, benefiting 4,650 individuals. She emphasized that this move will provide much-needed relief to struggling families, helping them regain financial stability.
Commitment to Social Justice and Welfare
The budget earmarks ₹9,340 crore to promote social justice and equality, ensuring financial aid for the elderly, widows, destitute women, orphaned children, and persons with disabilities.
Recognizing the importance of women’s mobility and economic empowerment, Minister Baljit Kaur praised the continuation of the free bus travel facility for women. Over 12 crore women have availed of this initiative in the past year, with ₹450 crore allocated to sustain it in the upcoming financial year.
Focus on Economic Upliftment
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to transforming the state into a ‘Rangla Punjab.’ The budget prioritizes the economic upliftment of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, minorities, and marginalized groups, with a ₹13,987 crore allocation—34% of the state’s total development budget.
Expressing optimism, Minister Baljit Kaur stated that the budget will foster inclusive growth, strengthen social justice, and contribute to a self-reliant and prosperous Punjab.
