The Haryana Government has formed a high-level committee, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, to review the current Price Policy for the upcoming seasons and years. The main goal of this committee is to assess the cost of cultivation for major kharif and rabi crops in the state, which play a vital role in Haryana’s agricultural economy.
A spokesperson from Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran mentioned that the state government is dedicated to improving the welfare of farmers and ensuring the agricultural sector remains strong, competitive, and sustainable in the long run. This committee will help design policies that balance the needs of farmers, consumers, and the state’s economic priorities.
The committee, which will meet twice a year, will evaluate the current price policy, analyze the cost of cultivation, and provide recommendations to make the policy more effective and responsive to the needs of Haryana’s farmers. This move is a response to the demand for a sustainable, farmer-friendly price policy that guarantees fair prices for agricultural produce, promotes crop diversification, and addresses challenges arising from increasing production costs.
The committee will examine the cost of cultivating major crops in Haryana, considering factors such as input costs, labor, irrigation, and other related expenses. It will also review the existing price policy for crops and suggest improvements to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation in line with production costs. Based on its findings, the committee will provide recommendations to the state government on strategic actions to improve the policy’s effectiveness. Its focus will also include ensuring that the policy benefits farmers while addressing their economic needs, thus contributing to the growth of Haryana’s agricultural sector.
The committee will consist of officials from the Agriculture Department, heads of the Economics and Agronomy sections at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, and the Director of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department. The Chief Executive Officer of Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran will serve as the Member Secretary.
This initiative is seen as a crucial step toward aligning agricultural policies with the evolving needs of farmers. By bringing together experts, stakeholders, and farmer representatives, the government aims to create a platform that directly addresses the challenges farmers face, ensures fair remuneration, and promotes sustainable farming practices. The committee will play a key role in shaping policies that prioritize the well-being of farmers and strengthen Haryana’s agricultural sector as a whole.
