As the anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, launched under the guidance of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, entered its 34th day, Punjab Police continued its crackdown by arresting 52 drug peddlers and seizing 5.6 kg of heroin, 3.2 kg of opium, and ₹1.93 lakh in drug-related cash on Thursday. This brings the total number of arrests under the campaign to 4,817 in just over a month.
The coordinated operation was carried out across all 28 police districts of the state on the instructions of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed top administrative and police officials—including Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and SSPs—to intensify efforts in making Punjab drug-free. To support this initiative, the state government has also formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to oversee the progress of the campaign.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla shared that over 200 police teams, consisting of more than 1,200 personnel and supervised by 87 gazetted officers, conducted coordinated raids at 416 different locations across Punjab. The operation resulted in the registration of 34 FIRs and the questioning of 449 individuals under suspicion.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann further highlighted that the state is following a three-pronged approach—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to eliminate drugs. As part of the de-addiction drive, three individuals have been persuaded to begin rehabilitation and treatment.
