Minister Harjot Singh Bains : In a significant stride towards transforming government schools and fulfilling Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to world-class education, the Punjab Government has successfully upgraded over 12,000 schools under the “Sikhya Kranti” initiative. This comprehensive program has revamped classroom infrastructure, enhanced facilities, and introduced modern digital learning tools to align with top-tier educational standards.
Sharing details of the initiative, Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that government schools have been equipped with essential facilities such as Wi-Fi, new furniture, clean drinking water, and separate toilets for boys and girls.
Minister Harjot Singh Bains further noted that as part of the initiative, 6,812 schools have received new or renovated boundary walls stretching nearly 1,000 kilometers, ensuring greater safety for students. Additionally, 5,399 new classrooms have been constructed to meet rising enrollment demands, while sanitation facilities have been bolstered with the addition of 2,976 new toilets across 2,934 schools and repairs to 7,166 toilets in 4,889 schools.
Focusing on student comfort, the government has supplied 1,16,901 dual desks, tables, and chairs, guaranteeing dedicated learning spaces. Moreover, 359 playgrounds have been developed to encourage physical activity and sports. In a push for digital education, 2,261 smart classrooms featuring interactive panels have been installed in 1,886 schools, creating an engaging, tech-enabled learning environment.
To celebrate these advancements, the School Education Department will hold inauguration events across all upgraded schools from April 7 to May 31. These events will highlight the completed infrastructure enhancements, including classrooms, sanitation blocks, smart classrooms, libraries, playgrounds, and more.
This initiative reflects the Punjab Government’s strong commitment to delivering quality education. The enriched school environments aim to empower students academically and pave the way for a brighter, more promising future for the state.
