Cabinet Minister : Under the progressive leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government remains deeply dedicated to the welfare and advancement of all sections of society. Demonstrating this commitment, a total of ₹102.69 crore has been distributed during the financial year 2024–25 under the Ashirwad Scheme to support backward classes and economically weaker sections. This was shared by Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities.
Providing more insights, Cabinet Minister Dr. Kaur stated that 20,136 beneficiaries have received financial aid under the scheme so far. Through the Ashirwad Scheme, the state government offers ₹51,000 in financial assistance for the marriage of daughters from financially underprivileged families.
Cabinet Minister further explained that to qualify for this support, applicants must be permanent residents of Punjab and belong to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or other economically weaker groups. Additionally, the family’s annual income must not exceed ₹32,790. Assistance is available for up to two daughters per eligible family.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Kaur noted that the aid is disbursed directly to beneficiaries via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and prompt payments.
Cabinet Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens and empowering marginalized communities through targeted welfare initiatives. The overarching goal, she emphasized, is to create a fair and inclusive society for everyone.
