Acting on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Mandi Board Secretary Mr. Ramvir carried out surprise inspections at various grain markets in Sangrur district. During his visits to the Dhuri and Sangrur mandis, he assessed the moisture content of the wheat brought in by farmers.
Mr. Ramvir stated that recent storms and heavy rainfall had affected some wheat stocks in low-lying areas of the markets. However, prompt action by Punjab Mandi Board staff and commission agents helped prevent further damage. He noted that water was successfully cleared from the markets within two hours.
He instructed Punjab Mandi officials to be available at the mandis round the clock and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for farmers. He also warned that if the procured wheat is not lifted within 72 hours, strict action would be taken against the responsible procurement agency.
Speaking to farmers, Mr. Ramvir reassured them that the Punjab Government remains fully committed to supporting them.
Chief Minister Field Officer Karamjit Singh, who was present during the visit, said the government has issued clear instructions to ensure a smooth wheat procurement season. He added that procurement of dry wheat should be completed within 24 hours of arrival, payments made within 48 hours, and lifting of the produce done within 72 hours.
Market Committee Sangrur Chairman Avtar Singh Elwal reiterated the government’s commitment to buying every single grain brought by farmers to the mandis.
Mr. Ramvir also chaired a review meeting with Mandi Board officers and commission agents at the Market Committee office to discuss ongoing operations.
The visit was also attended by SDM Dhuri Vikas Hira, XEN Mandi Board Puneet Sharma, District Mandi Officer Kuljit Singh, and other senior officials.
