CM Mohan Yadav participated in the cleaning of the Ramghat on the banks of the Kshipra River in Ujjain, as part of the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan. He personally stepped into the river and helped clean the ghats. Following the cleanup, he took a dip in the Kshipra and offered prayers to Maa Kshipra, seeking her blessings.
CM Mohan Yadav stated that the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan is a special initiative aimed at reviving Madhya Pradesh’s ancient and historical water sources. The campaign is also focused on restoring the flow of rivers. For example, the origin point of the Betwa River near Bhopal has already been rejuvenated. A key objective of this mission is the revival of traditional water structures such as stepwells, wells, ponds, and other water bodies.
CM Mohan Yadav highlighted that Maa Narmada is the only river in the country, and perhaps the world, that is circumambulated (parikrama). The Madhya Pradesh government is working to develop the Narmada Parikrama route with proper infrastructure and facilities for pilgrims. Similarly, 29 kilometers of new ghats are being developed along the Kshipra River to support pilgrims undertaking the Kshipra Parikrama.
To ensure that the Kshipra River remains clean and continuously flowing in Ujjain, the government is implementing two major projects: the Silarakhedi-Sevarkhedi Reservoir Scheme and the Khan Diversion River Project. Approximately 50% of this work has been completed. Dr. Yadav expressed confidence that within the next two years, the Kshipra will once again flow freely and vibrantly.
He emphasized Ujjain’s importance not only as a historic and religious city but also as a scientific and astronomical center. Noting its legacy in timekeeping and calendar science, he mentioned that Mughal emperors Akbar, Shah Jahan, and Jahangir had also visited Ujjain and studied time calculation at the famed Bharthari Caves. They even established a royal mint in the city.
CM Mohan Yadav said that consistent efforts are being made to restore Ujjain’s ancient glory. He recalled the significant contributions of rulers like Raja Bharthari, Samrat Vikramaditya, Samrat Ashoka, and Shrimant Mahadji Scindia, who revived Ujjain’s pride after the Battle of Panipat and hoisted the flag at the Red Fort. The land of Ujjain still echoes with the glory of these great kings.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister honored pilgrims who arrived from Salamatpur for the Panchkoshi Yatra and flagged off their journey. He also felicitated sanitation workers (Swachhata Mitras) of the Municipal Corporation for their dedicated service.
Present at the event were MLA Shri Anil Jain Kaluheda, Municipal Corporation Chairperson Smt. Kalavati Yadav, Mayor Shri Mukesh Tatwal, Shri Sanjay Agrawal, public representatives, Divisional Commissioner Shri Sanjay Gupta, IG Shri Umesh Joga, Collector Shri Roshan Kumar Singh, and Superintendent of Police Shri Pradeep Kumar Sharma.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also extended congratulations to the Mahakal Police Station for receiving the ISO certification.
