PUNJAB NEWS : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), acting in line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, has arrested Raj Kumar, Assistant Town Planner (ATP) of Phagwara Municipal Corporation, along with a private architect, Rajesh Kumar, for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
According to a VB spokesperson, the arrests were made following a complaint from a Phagwara resident in Kapurthala district. The complainant alleged that the architect initially demanded ₹1,50,000 to get a house map plan approved by the concerned planning official. After negotiations, the bribe was reduced to ₹50,000.
After verifying the complaint, a VB team from the Jalandhar range set up a trap. Both the ATP and the architect were caught red-handed while receiving the bribe, with two official witnesses present.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. The accused will be presented in court tomorrow, and further investigation is ongoing.
The spokesperson emphasized that this action highlights the Mann Government’s firm resolve to promote transparency, accountability, and a corruption-free governance system in Punjab.
