Ganja Seized From Vedan’s Flat in Kochi; Rapper Arrested
New Delhi | 29 April 2025 — Kerala rapper Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, was arrested by Hill Palace police on Monday after a small quantity of ganja was recovered from his apartment near Vyttila in Kochi.

According to officials, the police acted on a tip-off and raided Vedan’s flat late Sunday night. During the search, approximately six grams of ganja were found. Vedan, who had reportedly returned to the apartment along with eight friends after attending a stage performance earlier that evening, was taken into custody for questioning.
“We received credible information about narcotics being stored at the location. Based on that, our team conducted a raid and found the contraband,” said a senior officer from Hill Palace police station. Authorities confirmed that the rapper and his companions were being interrogated when this report was filed.
Police sources indicated that Vedan will be charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, given the minimal quantity of the substance recovered, officials stated that he may be granted station bail after the interrogation process is complete.
“The seizure falls under the category of personal consumption. As per law, if the possession is under a small quantity, the accused is eligible for station bail after formalities are completed,” added the officer. Further updates on the case are expected once the initial investigation concludes.
Rising Star Entangled in Controversy
Vedan, a native of Thrissur, rose to fame with his rap video Voice of the Voiceless, which resonated strongly among the youth for its raw depiction of social issues. His sharp lyrics and powerful storytelling earned him a loyal following, establishing him as one of the standout voices in Kerala’s independent music scene.
In addition to his solo projects, Vedan had recently collaborated with acclaimed music director Sushin Shyam for the promotional song Kuthanthram from the hit Malayalam film Manjummel Boys. The association with a major film boosted his profile significantly in the Malayalam entertainment industry.
The rapper, known for blending street narratives with socially conscious messages, had been seen as a fresh, authentic voice pushing the boundaries of Malayalam rap. His sudden involvement in a drug-related case has therefore sparked significant conversation among fans and the general public.
Industry Reacts
While there has been no official statement from Vedan’s management or collaborators yet, news of his arrest has stirred reactions on social media. Several fans expressed shock and disappointment, while others urged for a balanced approach, stressing the need for facts before judgment.
“It’s sad to see such a promising talent facing this situation. Hope the authorities handle it fairly and he gets a chance to explain his side,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, music industry insiders remarked on the pressures that come with sudden fame and the challenging environment young artists often navigate.
Focus on Drug Use Among Young Artists
This incident once again brings focus to concerns about the use of narcotics among youth and those in creative industries. Authorities in Kerala have been tightening surveillance and enforcement regarding drug usage, especially after a series of cases involving college students and local artists over the past few months.
Hill Palace police emphasized that their focus remains on curbing the spread of narcotics and that any individual found violating the NDPS Act, regardless of their social standing, would be treated as per the law.
As the investigation unfolds, further details regarding Vedan’s arrest and the circumstances surrounding the ganja seizure are expected to emerge. For now, the rapper’s immediate future hangs in the balance, as fans and observers wait to see how the situation develops.
