The Return of Dexter: ‘Resurrection’ Brings Michael C. Hall Back to TV
Get ready for the return of the world’s most infamous serial killer. Dexter: Resurrection, the highly anticipated sequel series to the iconic Dexter, has officially set its release date—and yes, Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) is very much alive.
After his dramatic (and seemingly final) exit in Dexter: New Blood, fans were left wondering if the infamous “Miami Metro” blood-spatter expert had truly met his end. Now, Dexter: Resurrection picks up right where New Blood left off, proving that Dexter’s story is far from over.
A Bloody Comeback
Dexter: Resurrection will premiere with two episodes on Friday, July 11, available for streaming and on-demand for Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers. The series will then debut on air on Sunday, July 13, at 8 p.m. with remaining episodes releasing weekly.
The show’s teaser trailer dropped earlier this week, confirming what fans have been eagerly hoping for: Dexter is back. And this time, he’s not running from his past—he’s determined to face it head-on.
The Plot: A Father’s Redemption
Set just weeks after the shocking events of Dexter: New Blood, Dexter Morgan finds himself waking up from a coma after being shot by his own son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). The first thing he discovers is that Harrison has vanished without a trace. Guilt-ridden and determined to make things right, Dexter embarks on a journey to find his son in New York City.
But his past is never too far behind. As the investigation into Harrison’s disappearance intensifies, Dexter realizes that he can’t escape the legacy of his dark past. Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) shows up with questions, forcing Dexter to confront not only his own demons but also the consequences of his actions.
Behind the Scenes
Showrunner Clyde Phillips, who previously led both Dexter: New Blood and the prequel Dexter: Original Sin, returns to helm Resurrection. Monica Raymund directs four episodes, while Marcos Siega directs the remaining six. Michael C. Hall also serves as executive producer, alongside Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Siega.
Production is currently underway in New York City, hinting at a shift from the small-town setting of New Blood to the sprawling, gritty urban landscape of NYC — a perfect backdrop for Dexter’s latest inner conflict.
What to Expect
If Dexter: Resurrection follows the dark, complex tone of its predecessors, fans can expect a high-stakes psychological thriller centered on guilt, legacy, and blood-soaked redemption. With both new and familiar faces, and a fresh setting, this series aims to close the chapter on Dexter’s journey — or perhaps crack it open even wider.
