Will Eden Gardens witness MS Dhoni’s final appearance during KKR vs CSK in IPL 2025? Chennai CEO responds, ‘We won’t reveal that…’
Is this Indian Premier League (IPL) season going to be MS Dhoni’s farewell run? That’s the question on everyone’s lips when it comes to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The five-time IPL titleholders are in Kolkata to face the Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on May 7.
Before the start of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain, handing over the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, with Gaikwad ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an elbow injury, Dhoni was reinstated as captain for the remainder of the season.
CSK CEO: “We’re not pointing fingers at anyone”
Under Dhoni’s leadership in IPL 2025, CSK have played six matches but secured just one win. In their previous encounter with KKR, the Kolkata side triumphed convincingly by eight wickets. Reflecting on the season, CEO Kasi Viswanathan said the focus is on rebuilding rather than assigning blame.
“We’re not pointing fingers at anyone, and we are focused on rebuilding. Several players lost their form simultaneously, which contributed to the situation. They are all talented players, but such things can happen to any team. Additionally, Ruturaj (Gaikwad) got injured. Cricket doesn’t always go your way. We didn’t perform well this time, but we’ll bounce back stronger,” Viswanathan stated.
