PUNJAB NEWS : The Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission has requested reports from the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, concerning the recent road accident in Patiala.
Commission Chairperson Mr. Kanwarjit Singh explained that the Commission has taken suo-motu notice of the tragic incident in which seven students and a driver lost their lives in a collision between a school vehicle and a tipper truck, with several others injured.
The Commission has instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that all injured children receive the necessary medical treatment. The Regional Transport Officer has been directed to conduct a thorough inspection of overloaded tippers and other vehicles operating on the roads. Additionally, the Commission has ordered an inspection of the affected school’s vehicles, as well as all school vehicles in the district, to ensure they comply with safety regulations. Strict action will be taken against school vehicle drivers and schools found violating the prescribed conditions.
The Senior Superintendent of Police has been tasked with conducting a detailed investigation into the tipper, including the driver’s license, the vehicle’s documentation such as the valid RC, fitness certificate, and adherence to government mining policies regarding road usage and overloading. Appropriate action will be taken against the tipper owner based on the findings.
The Commission has requested reports on the actions taken from both the Deputy Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police by May 11, 2025.
