Haryana’s Public Health Engineering and Public Works Minister Ranbir Gangwa, has directed officials to address public complaints related to drinking water without delay. He emphasized that Executive Engineers (XENs), SDOs, and JEs must work with full dedication to resolve such issues efficiently. Special attention should also be given to the proper execution of the Mahagram Scheme, ensuring that no village experiences disruptions. The Minister announced that he will personally conduct surprise inspections to monitor progress.
These directives were issued during a departmental meeting with senior officers in Chandigarh on Wednesday. SEs from across the state joined via video conferencing. The Minister reviewed the district-wise water supply situation, especially in light of reduced inflows from Bhakra Dam.
Minister Ranbir Gangwa stressed that timely resolution of complaints is a top priority, as providing clean drinking water is the department’s core responsibility. He warned that any negligence will result in strict action. He also ordered urgent measures to address water shortages in areas like Morni and Rohtak.
Awareness Campaigns to Curb Water Wastage
Minister Ranbir Gangwa reviewed actions taken to disconnect illegal water connections and called for stricter measures to prevent water wastage. He instructed officials to launch awareness campaigns, involving school children to promote responsible water usage.
He further directed that all complaints related to contaminated water be addressed promptly through a well-planned, time-bound approach. Officials were instructed to ensure that stored water at treatment plants remains uncontaminated and is not affected by sewer leakages.
Strict Monitoring of Mahagram Scheme Works
In villages where pipeline work is underway under the Mahagram Scheme, the Minister emphasized that road repairs must be completed by contractors as per guidelines. He directed SEs and XENs to monitor this closely, whether it involves laying of pipelines, STP construction, or sewer lines. Any compromise in quality will invite strict action, and contractors found negligent will be held accountable.
Ensure Adequate Drinking Water Supply Amid Reduced Bhakra Inflow
Minister Ranbir Gangwa reviewed the overall drinking water situation across Haryana. Reports highlighted that due to reduced water supply from the Bhakra Dam, water tanks in some regions—such as Sirsa, Bhiwani, Hisar, Kaithal, and Sonipat—had dried up. However, alternative arrangements like tankers, canal water, and other methods are being used to meet public demand.
Sh. Gangwa called for strategic rationing in both rural and urban areas to avoid any major crisis. He emphasized that the state government is actively addressing the issue and instructed officials to prepare for increased demand in the peak summer months of May, June, and July by ensuring sufficient arrangements are in place.
