Sydney Sweeney and Halsey Star in Crime Thriller Americana, Hitting Theaters This August
The trailer for Americana, the upcoming crime thriller from writer-director Tony Tost, has officially dropped, giving audiences a taste of its intense, character-driven drama. Starring Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeney and music sensation Halsey in lead roles, the film promises a gripping ride filled with danger, desperation, and dark humor.

Set in a quiet South Dakota town, Americana follows a shy waitress (Sydney Sweeney) who dreams of becoming a country singer. Her life takes a dangerous turn when she joins forces with a lonely military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) in a risky plan to steal a rare artifact that’s surfaced on the black market. Their mission quickly unravels into a chaotic struggle for survival as they’re hunted by a violent criminal working for a shadowy antiquities dealer.
Halsey, making her feature film acting debut, portrays a troubled woman trying to escape her haunted past—adding emotional weight and intensity to the ensemble. The cast also includes Eric Dane, Zahn McClarnon, and Simon Rex in supporting roles.
Americana first premiered at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film & TV Festival in March 2023, earning early praise for its tone and storytelling. Lionsgate picked up global distribution rights, and the film is now slated for a wide theatrical release on August 22, 2025.
This marks a bold shift for both Sydney Sweeney and Halsey. Known primarily for her music career, Halsey dives headfirst into dramatic territory, while Sydney Sweeney continues to expand her range with grittier, more grounded performances. The two previously worked together in Halsey’s 2019 music video for Graveyard—a collaboration that hinted at their onscreen chemistry.
With a mix of western noir aesthetics, fast-paced action, and emotional depth, Americana looks set to deliver a raw, thrilling cinematic experience.
