“Never Wanted to Act”—Gagan Arora on Becoming Bagga and Starring with Saif
Actor Gagan Arora, best known for his breakout role as Bagga in the hit web series College Romance, has opened up about his unconventional journey in the entertainment industry and his latest experience working alongside Bollywood heavyweight Saif Ali Khan in the upcoming film Jewel Thief.

In an exclusive conversation with Moneycontrol, Gagan Arora shared how his path to acting was far from typical. Starting off as an Assistant Director (AD) on the horror-comedy film Stree, Gagan admitted that he never imagined himself in front of the camera. “Honestly, never. I started my career in direction, and I never imagined myself as an actor,” he said. A chance audition, prompted by a call from a theatre junior, led to his breakthrough role as Bagga—an energetic and beloved character that resonated especially with Gen Z audiences.
Reflecting on his transition from behind the scenes to the spotlight, Gagan said, “It was surreal. There was no plan to be in front of the camera, but once I was there, it felt like it was meant to be.” He described acting as a new form of storytelling and creative expression that he quickly grew passionate about.
With a dedicated fanbase and recognition as one of the most relatable faces on Indian OTT platforms, Gagan Arora continues to rise in the industry. His latest project, Jewel Thief, pairs him with acclaimed actor Saif Ali Khan—an experience Gagan describes with admiration.
“He’s such a grounded person,” Gagan said about working with Khan. “Despite being a superstar, he makes you feel comfortable and involved. It’s inspiring to see someone at that level remain so humble.”
