Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann made an unannounced visit to the Sub Registrar Office in Mohali on Tuesday to assess the implementation of the recently introduced Easy Registration Scheme.
Clarifying the intent behind the visit, the Chief Minister said his goal was not to point out mistakes but to ensure smoother functioning of government offices. He noted that such visits by a CM are rare and reflect his government’s commitment to responsive governance. CM Bhagwant stressed that the initiative aims to enhance citizen services by making them more transparent and efficient.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was to personally evaluate the progress of the scheme, which is designed to simplify property registration for the public. He described the initiative as a pioneering step at the national level, intended to make the registration process easier and more accessible.
Highlighting the scheme’s advantages, CM Bhagwant said it encourages self-reliance by reducing the public’s dependence on private deed writers. With an integrated online payment gateway, citizens can now pay all required fees—such as stamp duty and registration charges—in a single digital transaction, eliminating the need for cash or demand drafts. This, he said, enhances both convenience and security.
The Chief Minister praised the scheme for saving time, effort, and money. He pointed out features like the 48-hour document pre-scrutiny and appointment-based system, which minimize disruption to people’s daily lives. The online portal also includes preset government rates and a fee calculator to help users plan their expenses better.
CM Bhagwant emphasized that the initiative eliminates hidden charges and curbs reliance on middlemen, making the process smoother and more transparent. He reiterated that the scheme is built on the principle of “Your Property, Your Convenience,” aiming to give citizens peace of mind.
He also announced that the scheme, which has seen a successful start in Mohali, will soon be expanded statewide. During his 20-minute visit, CM Bhagwant interacted with people at the office, gathering feedback on the scheme’s effectiveness. Citizens reported that their registrations were completed quickly and on schedule, with updates sent via WhatsApp.
Those present appreciated the efficient service, noting that the entire process, from entry to document receipt, took less than an hour. They commended the Chief Minister for launching such a forward-thinking initiative.
CM Bhagwant reiterated the government’s dedication to improving the functioning of public offices and shared that citizens can now visit any Sub Registrar Office in their district without hassle. He added that the scheme supports the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and will help eliminate malpractices in tehsil offices.
He concluded by announcing that the scheme would be implemented across the state by July 15. A trial run will be conducted in all districts from July 15 to August 1, with full-scale rollout beginning on August 1 to ensure seamless property registration services for all.
