Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently got some insight into the future of two key elements — the Eternals and War Machine — thanks to a Q&A session with Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus.

Marvel’s Eternals to Return, But War Machine Faces Uncertain Fate in Upcoming MCU Films
When asked about the status of the Eternals, Perez offered reassurance to fans. Despite mixed reactions to the 2021 film Eternals, Perez stated that the group is “not done for” and hinted that more Eternals could be featured in the MCU’s upcoming “next saga.” The original Eternals film, which introduced a powerful new team of cosmic beings, had a lukewarm critical reception and was considered one of the weaker MCU entries by many. Still, it grossed $402 million worldwide, proving profitable and leaving room for future stories involving these ancient heroes.
On the other hand, the outlook for War Machine, played by Don Cheadle, seems more uncertain. Perez noted that Rhodey’s character has not worn his iconic armor in quite some time and is reportedly dealing with PTSD related to his time as War Machine — a storyline that was intended to be explored in the now-canceled Armor Wars series. “At this point, probably not,” Perez said when asked about War Machine’s return, adding that it’s unclear if Don Cheadle will appear at all in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. While Rhodey did make an appearance in Secret Invasion, he was notably without his armor, signaling a potential shift or hiatus for the character’s armored heroics.
With the MCU gearing up for the next phase, fans will be watching closely to see how these developments play out on screen. Will the Eternals rise again in a bigger way? And can War Machine overcome his struggles to return to the battlefield? Marvel’s next moves will reveal all.
