CM Mohan Yadav announced that under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, Madhya Pradesh’s first Reservoir Fisheries Production and Processing Cluster will be established at Halali near Bhopal. The cluster will be inaugurated on June 13 in Indore by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Rajeev Ranjan Singh during the National Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Meet. Under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, 17 such clusters across the country have been identified by the central government, based on the unique fisheries characteristics of each region.
CM Mohan Yadav highlighted that this will be the first-ever national-level meeting on inland fisheries in a landlocked state like Madhya Pradesh, which does not have access to the sea. The primary aim of this conference is to enhance fish production in inland states. Only representatives from non-coastal states are participating.
Fisheries Ministers of 20 States to Participate
The National Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Meet in Indore will see the participation of fisheries ministers from 20 states. Among the dignitaries expected are Shri Narayan Singh Panwar (MP Fisheries), Shri Sanjay Kumar Nishad (UP Fisheries Minister), Ms. Renu Devi (Bihar Fisheries & Animal Husbandry Minister), Shri Shyam Singh Rana (Haryana Animal Husbandry, Dairy, and Fisheries Minister), Shri Jawahar Singh Bedham (Rajasthan MoS for Animal Husbandry & Fisheries). Key central officials like Fisheries Secretary Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi and Joint Secretary Shri Sagar Mehra will also attend.
In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of boosting fish exports, the Indore meet will also include technical sessions. Presentations will be made by national-level institutions like ICAR-CIFRI, ICAR-CIFA, and NFDB on the latest global techniques in fish production. Topics will include ‘Reservoir lease policies’, ‘Modern fish farming in rivers and ponds’ and ‘Potential for cold-water fish farming’.
Union Minister Shri Rajeev Ranjan Singh will distribute certificates to beneficiaries, including Fisheries cooperative societies, Fish producer organizations, Fisheries start-ups and Traditional fishermen. They will also be provided with Kisan Credit Cards and Aquaculture Insurance, ensuring financial security and digital accessibility.
Under CM Dr. Yadav’s leadership, continuous efforts are being made toward efficient water resource management to empower fishermen and make them self-reliant. As part of the event, an exhibition at Brilliant Convention Centre, Indore will be organized. The Exhibition will showcase Aqua parks, Cage culture and RAS (Recirculatory Aquaculture System) and Innovative fisheries technologies.
These initiatives are leading to increased income for fishers in the state. To meet the goals of Vision 2047, comprehensive work is being done in Input supply, Post-harvest management, Processing and Export of fisheries products. The Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh has previously been recognized as the Best Inland Fisheries District, while the Primary Fisheries Cooperative Society of Balaghat has earned national acclaim for its efforts in empowering fishermen.
