New Zealand opener Finn Allen etched his name into the record books with a blistering 151 off just 51 balls, smashing 19 sixes while playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the opening match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 against Washington Freedom on Friday.
Batting first at the newly introduced venue — Oakland Coliseum — Allen went on an all-out assault from the start, piling up 40 runs off just 14 balls, including five sixes during the Powerplay. That was only the beginning. The Kiwi star reached his half-century in 20 deliveries and stormed to his next fifty in just 14 more, setting a new record for the fastest century in MLC history. He eventually brought up his 150 in just 49 balls.
Powered by Allen’s explosive knock, San Francisco Unicorns posted a mammoth total of 269/5 in their 20 overs. In response, Washington Freedom were bowled out for only 146 in 13.1 overs, with Mitchell Owen (39), Rachin Ravindra (42), Jack Edwards (21), and Ben Sears (15\*) being the only players to reach double digits.
T20 Records Broken by Finn Allen – Reworded Version:
19 Sixes:
During his explosive 151-run innings, Finn Allen hit a total of 19 sixes, setting a new benchmark for the most sixes in a single T20 match. With this feat, he overtook the previous joint record of 18 sixes held by Chris Gayle (against Dhaka Dynamites in 2017) and Sahil Chauhan (against Cyprus in 2024).
150 in 49 Balls:
Allen reached the 150-run mark in just 49 deliveries, making it the fastest 150 in T20 cricket history. He broke the earlier record held by Dewald Brevis, who had taken 52 balls to hit 150 against the Knights in 2022.
134 Runs in Boundaries:
Out of his 151 runs, Allen scored 134 through boundaries alone — hitting five fours and 19 sixes. This means nearly 80% of his total runs came from boundaries. Only three players in T20 history have managed to score more runs from boundaries in a single innings.
151 Runs:
Finn Allen’s 151 is now the highest individual score in Major League Cricket (MLC) history, surpassing Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 137 against the Seattle Orcas in the 2023 final. Interestingly, MLC was officially granted T20 status following Pooran’s iconic knock.
34-Ball Century:
Allen reached his century in just 34 balls, making it the second-fastest hundred in franchise T20 history. The only quicker ton remains Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors during IPL 2013.
