Tejpratap Singh Yadav in SP
Mulayam Singh Yadav’s grand-nephew, Tejpratap Singh Yadav, served as Mainpuri’s representative from 2014 to 2019. There were rumors that Akhilesh Yadav, a former Kannauj CM, might run for office in the SP.
Ending speculation about party head Akhilesh Yadav’s possible candidacy from the constituency, the Samajwadi Party on Monday declared Tejpratap Singh Yadav as its candidate for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat. Tejpratap Singh Yadav, son-in-law of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and grand-nephew of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, served as the Mainpuri seat’s representative from 2014 to 2019.
In the 2019 elections, Kannauj was won by Subrat Pathak of the BJP, who defeated Dimple Yadav, the wife of Akhilesh Yadav. Sanatan Pandey has also been announced by the SP as their candidate for the Ballia seat.
Uttar Pradesh sends the highest number of members to Lok Sabha — 80.
Of UP’s 80 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP won 62 of them in the 2019 elections. In the Ghaziabad constituency, General V.K. Singh (Retd) defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Suresh Bansal with a commanding advantage of more than 5 lakh votes.
Additionally, in 2014, Singh broke all previous records when he defeated Raj Babbar of the Congress by an incredible margin of 5,67,260 votes.

For the Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party has so far made the names of 57 candidates public. Being a crucial component of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, the SP is essential to the alliance that aims to topple the Modi government at the center.
In Uttar Pradesh, the SP has partnered with the Congress and the All India Trinamool Congress as part of the pre-poll alliance. In other states, it is also aiding partners in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc. The Congress is running for 17 seats under the seat-sharing arrangement.
India is holding seven stages of general elections from April 19, 2024, to June 1, 2024, to choose 543 members of the Lok Sabha. On June 4, 2024, the votes will be tallied and the results announced.
