RAJASTHAN NEWS : Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Vasudev Devnani, during his visit to France, paid a formal visit to the French Senate (Sénat de France) in Paris on Friday to observe and study the parliamentary system, composition of committees and democratic processes there.
Shri Devnani took stock of the functioning of the French Legislature in this study tour. Shri Devnani discussed with the Senator of the Senate, Ms. Nathalie Goulet, the key points for enhancing parliamentary efficiency and explored new possibilities of cooperation between the democratic institutions of the two countries.
Shri Devnani made a comparative study of the bicameral system of France, particularly the role of the Senate, its constitutional position and its participation in the legislative processes, the Rajya Sabha and the State Legislative Council. He evinced keen interest in the working of the Standing Committees of the Senate, their research based decision making system and the process of maintaining balance between the administration and the legislature.
On this occasion, he interacted with the Vice President of the French Senate, Parliamentary Secretaries and legal experts and exchanged views. Both sides exchanged views on contemporary issues such as climate policy, education reform, budget process and cyber security.
Shri Devnani said that the parliamentary traditions of France are a reflection of the maturity of democracy. With the continuity of dialogue and cooperation between the legislatures of India and France, we can set new paradigms of mutual prosperity, legislative efficiency and good governance.
Shri Devnani informed that this study tour is an important step towards strengthening India-France Parliamentary relations. The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly will now move towards incorporating a new vision of innovation, transparency and global dialogue in its legislative functioning by leveraging this experience.
