Gi-hun Returns — In a Coffin
In the early-access footage, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is shockingly delivered back to the Squid Game dormitory — inside one of the competition’s trademark gift-box coffins. Once thought to be dead following a rebellion in Season 2, Gi-hun’s return brings both relief and tension to the remaining contestants.
“When the coffin is opened, Gi-hun is reborn,” said Lee Jung-jae in an interview with Tudum. “He has to go back to the competition, play the game again, and make choices again.”
Season 3 raises the stakes like never before. The games are deadlier, the psychological pressure is heavier, and Gi-hun is determined to stop the brutal system once and for all.
The Front Man’s Game
This season also explores the mind of the sinister Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who spares Gi-hun — not out of mercy, but as part of a twisted plan to break his spirit.
“Front Man wants Gi-hun to finally give up his faith in humanity,” explained Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk.
“He believes Gi-hun will inevitably change to think just like him,” added Lee Byung-hun.
Meanwhile, questions remain about detective Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), last seen escaping on a rescue boat — a scene briefly teased in the preview clip.
