Charli XCX Calls Out “Boring Takes” After Autotune Uproar at Glastonbury
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the “Brat” hitmaker, Charli XCX responded directly to the online chatter, stating that she welcomes the divided opinions.

“Like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a ‘real artist’ is like, the most boring take ever,” she wrote. “Yawn sorry just fell asleep xx.”
Despite the criticism, Charli XCX sees value in the conversation. She continued,
“To be honest… I enjoy the discourse. IMO the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable.”
Charli XCX’s performance on June 28 at Worthy Farm’s Other Stage marked a bold, high-energy display aligned with her latest era of music, heavily influenced by hyperpop aesthetics and experimental production. While some audience members praised her daring visuals and sound, others took issue with her reliance on autotune — a creative choice that’s long been central to her sonic identity.
Charli XCX’S stance is in line with her reputation as a boundary-pushing artist who refuses to conform to traditional pop standards. With the release of her album “Brat”, she’s leaned even further into raw, rave-ready sounds that challenge mainstream sensibilities.
The 2025 edition of Glastonbury Festival, which drew over 200,000 attendees, will be the last until 2027, as the iconic festival will take a fallow year in 2026 to let the site recover — making this year’s performances especially memorable and, for some, polarizing.
