As the state-wide anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh,’ launched under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, completes four months, Punjab Police has registered 12,135 FIRs and arrested 19,880 drug traffickers, seizing 786 kg of heroin since March 1, 2025.
Working under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, the Punjab Police have been carrying out coordinated daily operations across all 28 police districts. CM Mann had earlier directed all Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and SSPs to intensify efforts to make Punjab a drug-free state. To oversee this mission, the state government formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, who is directly supervising the operations, disclosed that, in addition to the heroin seizures, police have recovered 301 kg of opium, 158 quintals of poppy husk, 11 kg of charas, 300 kg of ganja, 2.9 kg of ICE, 27.99 lakh intoxicating pills and tablets, and ₹11.58 crore in drug-related cash.
Providing updates from Day 122 of the operation, the Special DGP reported the arrest of 128 more drug peddlers, along with the recovery of 4.1 kg heroin, 3.5 kg opium, 10 kg poppy husk, 13,667 intoxicant pills, and ₹1.25 lakh in drug money.
Over 200 police teams, involving more than 1,300 personnel and supervised by 87 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 418 different locations throughout the state. The teams also interrogated 428 suspicious individuals during the operation, registering 92 FIRs in a single day.
To combat drug abuse holistically, the Punjab Government is implementing a three-tier strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP). As part of the de-addiction drive, 76 individuals were motivated by police teams to seek treatment and rehabilitation.
