In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to ensure the safety and security of Punjab, the state’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has successfully thwarted a major terror conspiracy linked to Pakistan’s ISI and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Harwinder Rinda, who is currently based in Pakistan. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Wednesday that a significant cache of weapons and explosives was seized from a forested area in Gurdaspur.
Among the recovered items were two AK-47 rifles, 16 live cartridges, two magazines, and two P-86 hand grenades.
DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations indicate the consignment was infiltrated into India by Pakistani intelligence operatives in coordination with Harwinder Rinda. Their objective was to execute coordinated attacks across various locations in Punjab, with the intention of disturbing public peace and security.
Based on specific human intelligence, AGTF teams led by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban tracked down the cache in time, preventing it from falling into the hands of Rinda’s operatives. The DGP added that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those who were meant to receive the weapons.
Providing further details, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of AGTF Gurmeet Chauhan revealed that the investigation has also uncovered the involvement of foreign-based terrorists in this . He suggested that more weapons consignments could be uncovered in the near future.
An FIR has been filed under relevant provisions of the Explosives Act and Arms Act at the Purana Shala Police Station in Gurdaspur.
