A newly released promotional image showcases 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived, marking his debut in the iconic role of Harry Potter. Clad in the Gryffindor house uniform and sporting the character’s signature round glasses, McLaughlin is joined by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger—two other young talents selected following an extensive UK-wide casting search of children aged 9 to 11.
Executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, introducing the trio in May, praised their performances: “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
Additional cast members have also been announced, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
Production is now underway at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, UK—where the original films were also shot. HBO promises a “faithful adaptation” of the novels, with each season dedicated to one book in the seven-part series. The show is expected to explore the magical world of Hogwarts with greater depth and detail, staying true to the original material that has captivated readers and audiences for over 25 years.
Originally announced in 2023, the series is part of HBO’s strategy to revive and expand iconic franchises for a new generation of viewers. No release date has been confirmed, but early reactions to the casting and production reveal have been overwhelmingly positive.
