Buried Truths: Suneel Darshan Opens Up on Karisma Kapoor’s Painful Past
Businessman Sunjay Kapur, the former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away on June 12, marking the end of a chapter that had long remained a topic of public and media speculation. In the wake of his passing, filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who has worked closely with Karisma, has spoken about her marriage and the emotional complexities that surrounded it.

Speaking to journalist Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Darshan described Karisma’s marriage to Kapur as “abrupt” and emotionally loaded. “We’ve exchanged this thing… I’ve known the issue too deeply. Right from the first day, I’ve known exactly,” said Darshan, referring to the personal turmoil Karisma Kapoor experienced during and after her relationship with Kapur.
Darshan also recalled that Karisma Kapoor had a close bond with Sunjay Kapur’s sister since childhood, which made her later experiences with the Kapur family all the more emotionally complex. “Some things just need to be buried,” he said, indicating that the past was painful and best left behind.
Reflecting on the period surrounding Karisma’s personal upheaval, Darshan mentioned her highly publicized breakup with actor Abhishek Bachchan, calling both the split and her sudden marriage to Sunjay Kapur surprising. “I thought it was an abrupt decision… something had to do with the stars — not film stars — the stars,” he remarked, alluding to destiny playing a role in the rapid turn of events.
