Karan Johar Admits Backing Ok Jaanu Was a Mistake
Karan Johar recently opened up about his decision to back Ok Jaanu, admitting in a candid chat with Jay Shetty on the On Purpose podcast that he sensed the project would underperform—and chose to proceed anyway.

“Should this film be remade? Because it’s so much about that moment. Can that moment be recaptured?” Johar reflected, questioning whether the magic of the original could be replicated.
Despite those doubts, he went ahead with the film—and it didn’t resonate with audiences. He explained:
“Somewhere, the magic of the original we couldn’t recapture. And it was nobody’s fault. But my instinct told me I shouldn’t do it. And I did it. And that’s when I realised, I should listen to my instinct. I have gone wrong.”
Ok Jaanu received lukewarm reviews and failed to deliver at the box office, despite a fresh musical pairing and the star power of its leads.
