Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today unveiled a major initiative aimed at strengthening mental health services in the state’s prisons. He announced that approval has been granted for the recruitment of 60 psychologist counselors to serve in jails throughout Punjab.
In an official statement, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the AAP-led Punjab Government’s focus on ensuring the welfare of prisoners. “This effort reflects our strong commitment to offering holistic support to those within the in the area of mental health care,” he stated.
Providing more details, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the recruitment process for these 60 psychologist counselors will be managed by the Jails Department and conducted through a fully transparent outsourcing mechanism. He noted that this step will significantly improve mental health assistance for inmates, playing a key role in their rehabilitation and overall well-being.
