Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday laid the foundation stone for the Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Heritage Complex, a tribute project worth ₹51.70 crore, dedicated to honoring the memory of the iconic freedom fighter.
Paying floral tributes to the revered martyr, the Chief Minister remarked that Bhagat Singh laid down his life to free India from colonial rule. He shared that the heritage complex will be completed within nine months and is intended to inspire coming generations to serve the nation with the same spirit of dedication. The project is a key step in safeguarding and celebrating the extraordinary legacy of this great revolutionary.
CM Bhagwant Mann stressed that the complex will not be just a physical structure, but a deeply moving and educational experience. Visitors will get an immersive insight into Bhagat Singh’s sacrifice, intellect, and bravery. The monument will include a Grand Thematic Gate and a 350-meter-long Heritage Street, linking the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Museum to his ancestral home. This stretch will tell the story of his life and India’s freedom movement using sculptures, 2D/3D wall art, and mannequins depicting scenes from colonial India. The site will also feature a towering 30-meter-high Indian flag and a 700-seat air-conditioned auditorium.
CM Bhagwant also announced the creation of a replica of Bhagat Singh’s ancestral house in Lyallpur (now in Pakistan), as well as a reimagined version of his village on the Heritage Street. His original home in Khatkar Kalan will be restored, and an interactive digital display of his courtroom trial will bring visitors closer to his revolutionary zeal. The complex will also see the modernization and digitization of the existing library, alongside the development of tourist-friendly amenities such as a Tourist Facilitation Centre, landscaped gardens, cottages, a musical fountain, and spacious parking facilities.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh and other officials were present on the occasion.
