Punjab Govt : In a major step to honour the memory of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji and to respond to the long-pending demand of the Kamboj community, the Punjab Government has announced a gazetted holiday on July 31 to observe the martyrdom day of the iconic freedom fighter, said AAP State President and Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora.
Speaking at a press conference held at Punjab Bhawan on Tuesday, Mr. Arora also shared that the Bhawanigarh–Sunam–Bhikhi–Kotshamir road will be renamed as “Shaheed Udham Singh Marg.” A state-level event will be held in Sunam—Shaheed Udham Singh’s birthplace—on July 31 to mark the occasion. During this event, AAP National Convener Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann will formally unveil the new name of the road.
Mr. Arora thanked both leaders for paying tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh Ji, who is remembered for avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in London.
Additionally, Mr. Arora urged the Central Government to rename the Patiala–Bhawanigarh road in honour of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji. He stated that CM Mann is also pursuing this request with the Union Government to appropriately recognize the revolutionary’s contribution.
Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy and Punjab State BC Commission Chairman Dr. Malkiat Singh Thind also thanked Shri Arvind Kejriwal and CM Bhagwant Mann for addressing the Kamboj community’s long-standing appeals. They praised Aman Arora’s consistent efforts in fulfilling these demands, which pay homage to the martyrs’ sacrifices and bring pride to both Punjab and the nation.
