PM Surya Ghar Scheme, launched by the government, is emerging as a ray of hope in rural areas, transforming the lives of common citizens. In one such example, Akat Ram Dhruv, a resident of Navagaon Venkat in Lorami block, has availed the benefits of the scheme by installing solar panels on the roof of his house. He is now free from the burden of monthly electricity bills, meeting his household energy needs entirely through solar power.
Shri Dhruv shared that earlier, electricity supply to his home was irregular, and the bills were considerably high. However, upon learning about the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, he applied without delay. Under the scheme, he received solar panels at a subsidized rate, and within a few days, the system was installed on his rooftop. Now, his home enjoys a regular power supply, with no bills to pay. In the coming days, he even plans to sell surplus electricity to the power department, generating additional income.
Expressing his satisfaction, Shri Dhruv said that the scheme has brought him both economic and mental relief. Alongside farming, he is now able to use solar energy for his household needs as well. The Sarpanch of Navagaon Gram Panchayat said that success stories like that of Dhruv are inspiring others in the village to apply for the scheme.
According to an official from the CREDA (Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency), both the Central and State governments are providing subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme. For installing a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar plant, the Central Government offers a subsidy of ₹78,000, while the State Government provides ₹30,000. Additionally, bank financing is available on easy instalments. So far, hundreds of people across the state have benefited from the scheme, with awareness steadily growing in rural areas.
The scheme not only promotes environmental conservation but also encourages economic savings and clean energy production. The government’s goal is to connect the maximum number of households to solar energy, making every home self-reliant.
