Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday flagged off the maiden special train carrying a 500-member delegation of women Sarpanches and Panchs from the state to Maharashtra, where they will pay obeisance at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded and take part in the National Convention of Women Panchayats.
Calling it a historic moment,CM Bhagwant said the group comprises representatives from high-performing panchayats, and the visit aims to give them fresh exposure through interaction with panchayat leaders from across the country. He noted that the experience would help them drive holistic growth in their respective villages.
Highlighting the vital role of Panchayats as the “Pillars of Democracy,” CM Bhagwant Mann said they directly oversee key services in rural areas, including schools, dispensaries, veterinary hospitals, and other public welfare facilities. He expressed confidence that this initiative would strengthen the leadership and vision of women representatives for village development.
CM Bhagwant Mann also announced that the government has arranged for the delegation to visit Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded as part of events marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib, with the state bearing all expenses for their travel, boarding, and lodging. He added that two more such trains will be dispatched soon.
Emphasizing the spiritual significance of Nanded Sahib for Punjabis,CM Bhagwant said this journey is both a pilgrimage and a recognition of women’s empowerment. He expressed hope that the delegation would seek blessings for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Punjab and its people.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
