Punjab Government : In a major relief for the state’s higher education sector, the Supreme Court of India has permitted 1,158 Assistant Professors and Librarians to continue serving in government colleges until new recruitments are completed. This step will ensure that students in government colleges across Punjab can continue their studies without disruption.
Welcoming the Apex Court’s decision, Punjab Higher Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains said that this is a significant relief for higher education in the state, as it guarantees continuity in teaching and learning for students. He pointed out that although the Supreme Court had on July 14, 2025, quashed the appointments of these 1,158 faculty members and librarians, the Punjab Government immediately filed a petition, stressing the adverse impact such removals would have on education.
The Minister further added that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to protecting these appointments and is in the process of filing a review petition in the Supreme Court. “We will present the strongest case to safeguard the rights of these dedicated educators and librarians,” Bains affirmed.
