To promote Punjab’s food products worldwide, PSFC has strongly recommended the creation of a state-owned brand PUNJAB MART and submitted the proposal to the state government.
PUNJAB MART : Briefing Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak about the initiative, Commission Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma said the move would significantly help in taking Punjab’s foods to the international market.
The Commission also underlined the importance of generating rural employment by strengthening the cooperative sector through the coordination of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Rural Development, Cooperation, Employment Generation departments, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies.

The Minister encouraged the Commission to adopt best practices from other states.
It was further highlighted that to improve nutritional security, Nutritional Gardens with fruit, vegetable, and herbal plants have been established in schools. The Minister also reviewed the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Anganwadi centres, and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), which cater to children up to six years, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. Additionally, he reviewed the Poshan Abhiyaan initiative, which includes Poshan Vatikas (nutrition gardens) near Anganwadi centres.
The Minister directed that there must be no compromise in ensuring quality meals, especially during droughts, in line with the Right to Food under Article 21 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to live with dignity.
Commission Member Vijay Dutt also suggested setting up a War Room at Chandigarh Headquarters for centralized monitoring of Commission activities.
