PUNJAB NEWS : Punjab Police has received reports that certain individuals, posing as members of a political party, are not only gathering personal data of citizens but are also charging money in the form of commissions to get govt work done.
PUNJAB NEWS UPDATE : A Punjab Police spokesperson said that some complainants even shared their bank account details with these individuals, after which their accounts were completely drained of funds.
The spokesperson emphasized that all such complaints are under investigation, and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits. Citizens are advised to stay away from such anti-social elements and not to share personal details with anyone, as this information can be misused. People are also urged not to approach such unauthorized individuals for government-related work. The Punjab Government has established several ‘Sewa Kendras’ across the state, where citizens can access services without paying any illegal commissions or bribes to anyone claiming political affiliation.
The public is requested to immediately report to the police if any such unauthorized camps are set up in their area.
The spokesperson further noted that upon receiving credible reports of such illegal collection of personal data, the State Government has already warned citizens against sharing their personal information with unauthorized persons or agencies, stressing that such data can be misused at any point. People have been advised to remain alert and promptly report any such activity to the authorities.
