Under the leadership of CM Bhajan Sharma, the Rajasthan government is taking continuous steps to provide world-class and affordable healthcare facilities to the people of the state.
CM Bhajan Sharma : In the 2024–25 budget, the government announced the establishment of the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on the lines of AIIMS Delhi, through the upgradation of RUHS (Rajasthan University of Health Sciences). In this regard, the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur Bill 2025 will be introduced in the State Assembly.
Health Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Khimsar stated that RIMS will be developed on the model of AIIMS Delhi, offering super-specialty clinical services, advanced medical education, research for addressing health challenges, and top-quality patient care. It will function as an autonomous institute and university, empowered to award degrees, diplomas, and academic recognition under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
Facilities at RIMS
According to Medical Education Secretary Shri Ambrish Kumar, RIMS will host super-specialty departments such as cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, urology, plastic surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, CTVS, and transplant units. Additionally, new sub-specialty departments will be set up, including pediatric cardiology, geriatric medicine, rheumatology, reproductive biology, genetics, biotechnology, nuclear medicine, sleep medicine, and critical care.
The institute will focus on the advancement of super-specialty and broad-specialty services, quaternary-level referral hospital care, specialized postgraduate teaching in modern medicine and allied sciences (including Ayurveda and Yoga), and innovative research on Rajasthan-specific health concerns. It will also emphasize teacher training and innovation in treatment protocols for primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare. Eligible patients under government schemes will receive free treatment, reducing the burden on other state hospitals while ensuring access to world-class super-specialty services.
Governance
The Chief Secretary of Rajasthan will serve as Chairperson, with a Director appointed on deputation. A governing body will also be constituted, comprising experts from leading national institutions like AIIMS Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, and IIMs. RUHS and the State Cancer Institute, Jaipur are proposed to be integrated with RIMS.
World-class Infrastructure
RIMS will operate as an autonomous body with its own dedicated fund. The state government has proposed an investment of ₹100 crore for infrastructure development and an annual budgetary provision of ₹5 crore, subject to increase as required. The institute will include medical, dental, and nursing colleges, rural and urban health centers, and training programs for healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists and pharmacists—ensuring that doctors focus on institutional excellence rather than private practice.
CM Bhajan ,Once the RIMS Bill is passed in the Assembly, appointments of subject experts and a Director will be initiated, along with collaborations with world-class medical institutions for international exchange and research. With its establishment, Rajasthan is expected to emerge as a hub for medical tourism both in India and abroad.
