Jarrod Bowen and West Ham : West Ham’s poor start to the season worsened on Tuesday night as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup following a 3-2 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.
Jarrod Bowen and West Ham : The full-time whistle brought not just disappointment but also a tense moment between skipper Jarrod Bowen and the travelling fans. The Hammers looked on course for victory after Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek overturned Rodrigo Gomes’ early strike. But the visitors collapsed late, with Wolves substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen netting twice in quick succession to seal West Ham’s exit.
The result meant Graham Potter’s side slumped to a third straight defeat of the season, having already suffered heavy league losses to Sunderland and Chelsea. Across those three games, they have shipped 11 goals, intensifying pressure on Potter only months after taking charge in January.
At full-time, Bowen went over to applaud the away support, but an exchange with fans quickly turned sour. The winger appeared upset by comments from the stands and briefly moved toward the crowd before being restrained by teammates Tomas Soucek, Alphonse Areola, and stewards. He initially walked away, but then turned back again before eventually leaving the pitch and taking off his captain’s armband.
Bowen’s Apology and Potter’s Response
Within the hour, Bowen took to Instagram to apologise, writing that he let his emotions get the better of him but reaffirmed his passion and love for the club, adding, “We stick together through the tough times and I’ll see you all Sunday.”
Manager Graham Potter downplayed the incident, urging unity. He acknowledged the pain of the defeat but stressed that Bowen’s reaction came from caring deeply about the team. “It was simply an exchange of views between people who care,” he remarked.
West Ham now turn their attention to their upcoming Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest before the international break, with both pressure on Potter and frustration among supporters continuing to grow.
