Fenerbahce have officially confirmed that head coach Jose Mourinho has parted ways with the club.
Jose Mourinho : The decision follows their failure to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League group stage after a playoff defeat to Benfica. As a result, the Istanbul giants will compete in the Europa League for the 2025–26 season.
Appointed on July 1, 2024, Mourinho was tasked with reviving Fenerbahce’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe. However, the campaign fell short of expectations. The team bowed out of the Turkish Cup at the quarter-final stage and suffered elimination in the Europa League round of 16 at the hands of Rangers. On Friday, the club confirmed his exit through an official statement.
Mourinho’s Record at Fenerbahce
In his brief stint, Mourinho oversaw 62 matches, securing 37 wins, 14 draws, and 11 losses, averaging 2.02 points per game. Despite a bright start and major global attention, his tenure ended without silverware or notable European breakthroughs, leaving fans disappointed.
The 62-year-old manager, who has previously managed clubs such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Roma, now departs Istanbul with speculation surrounding his next move, while Fenerbahce once again face a search for managerial stability. No successor has been announced yet.
Interestingly, Mourinho had hinted last season that he would like to return to the Premier League, even suggesting that he was open to coaching a mid-table side without European commitments.
