Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launch 17 projects worth ₹1,723 crore to improve healthcare, social welfare, and public safety in Delhi under Seva Pakhwada.
In a significant development initiative, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta jointly inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 17 major projects valued at ₹1,723.06 crore. This event, held at Thyagaraj Stadium, is part of the ongoing Seva Pakhwada campaign, organized to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and his commitment to public service.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the Prime Minister’s belief that political power should be a tool to serve the people. She praised Modi for celebrating his birthday as a “Seva Pakhwada,” encouraging citizens to engage in service activities. Rekha Gupta also emphasized that Delhi is moving forward in alignment with the vision of a developed India. Over the duration of the Seva Pakhwada, from September 17 to October 2, the government plans to inaugurate a total of 75 projects aimed at improving public infrastructure and welfare.
Among the key developments are expansions in healthcare infrastructure across Delhi. New inpatient department (IPD) blocks have been opened at prominent hospitals including Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital and Acharya Shri Bhikshu Hospital. Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital has also received a new outpatient department (OPD) block. Additionally, 150 new dialysis machines have been installed in six hospitals to improve treatment facilities for patients with kidney ailments. The inauguration of 101 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs aims to provide accessible primary healthcare services closer to residents’ doorsteps. The Sant Shri Durbal Nath Ji Trauma Centre at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital was also inaugurated, further enhancing emergency medical care capabilities. Moreover, a dedicated maternity and child care block was opened at Shri Dada Dev Hospital, supporting maternal and child health initiatives.
The government’s efforts extend beyond healthcare, focusing on inclusive social welfare programs. The Atal Asha Home for mentally challenged individuals in Narela has been established, and a hostel for visually impaired girls in Timarpur was inaugurated to support the needs of differently-abled citizens. The Savitri Bai Phule Senior Citizen Home in Paschim Vihar marks a step towards better care for the elderly population. Financial assistance schemes were also launched, including a monthly aid of ₹6,000 for caregivers of people with special needs and the enrollment of 50,000 beneficiaries under the Old Age Pension Scheme. Additionally, 10 resource centers have been set up to assist over 12,000 specially-abled children across Delhi.
Sustainability and public safety are key focuses of the projects. A waste-to-energy plant with a capacity of 3,000 tons per day was laid in Narela-Bawana, while the capacity of the existing Okhla waste-to-energy plant was increased to handle 2,950 tons per day. These initiatives aim to manage Delhi’s waste more effectively and generate clean energy. To enhance emergency response, 24 new Quick Response Vehicles for firefighting services were introduced to improve the city’s disaster management capabilities.
Empowering women and promoting technology were also highlighted during the event. As part of the Netr-Nari-Netritva Project, 75 drones developed by the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) were launched, symbolizing the growing role of women in technological innovation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta acknowledged the continuous support provided by the central government under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, despite political differences in the Delhi state government. She noted that in the past 11 years, the Modi government has invested significantly in Delhi’s development, including highways, metro expansion, and cleaning of the Yamuna River. Gupta contrasted this with the previous state government, which she criticized for prioritizing politics over progress.
The projects inaugurated and initiated collectively represent an investment of over ₹1,723 crore, aimed at improving healthcare, sanitation, social welfare, energy management, and safety across Delhi. As the city gears up for further development under the Seva Pakhwada campaign, these efforts underscore the government’s commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more inclusive Delhi, aligned with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
