Delhi Government removes income criteria for Kashmiri displaced families, providing monthly relief of ₹3,250 per member to 1,800 families. Immediate backlog payments to be released.
In a landmark decision, the Delhi government has announced a comprehensive financial relief scheme for Kashmiri displaced families residing in the national capital. The new policy removes the existing income cap of ₹26,800 per month, making all 1,800 registered displaced families eligible for monthly financial aid—regardless of their current income.
Under the new guidelines, each eligible family member will receive ₹3,250 per month, with support provided for up to four members per family. This means a household could receive up to ₹13,000 monthly from the Delhi government. The initiative aims to provide long-overdue support to families displaced during the 1990s Kashmir conflict.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Calls It a Humanitarian Responsibility
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while announcing the decision, emphasized that this relief is not a gesture of charity but a rightful support system for a community uprooted by decades-old conflict. She confirmed that the government will soon initiate the disbursal process, especially targeting those displaced Kashmiri Hindu families who have been living in Delhi and NCR regions for over 30 years. “This is not a donation, but a humanitarian recognition of the suffering endured by thousands of families forced to leave their homeland,” said CM Rekha Gupta.
Past Relief Blocked Due to Strict Policies
The relief distribution had reportedly been stalled for over 18 months due to bureaucratic complications and rigid policy conditions, particularly the now-abolished income threshold and difficulties in updating family records.
Chief Minister Gupta, along with Education Minister Ashish Sood, held meetings with representatives of the displaced community, after which instructions were issued to the Revenue Department to revise the rules.
“Special Opportunity Scheme” for Updating Records
To ensure transparency and fairness, the Delhi Government has launched a “Special Opportunity Scheme”, which gives all displaced families a one-time opportunity to update the details of current family members without fear of losing previous benefits or facing repayment demands.
This move will also bring clarity to outdated records and help streamline the delivery of future benefits more efficiently.
Backlog Relief to Be Released
In another significant announcement, the Delhi government confirmed that all pending relief payments up to September 2025 will be cleared. This decision is expected to provide immediate financial support and help restore the trust of the affected community.
Policy Aligned with Jammu & Kashmir Relief Standards
This decision aligns Delhi’s policy with relief frameworks already in place in Jammu & Kashmir, ensuring parity and equal treatment for displaced Kashmiri families. Most importantly, it reflects the government’s compassionate approach toward addressing long-standing injustices faced by the displaced community.
