Bihar CM Nitish Kumar releases ₹2,500 crore under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, empowering 25 lakh rural women with self-employment assistance. Learn about the scheme’s impact, benefits, and future scope.
In a landmark move aimed at boosting women empowerment and rural entrepreneurship, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today released ₹2,500 crore under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, benefiting 25 lakh women across the state.
The scheme, which was launched ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, is seen as a major initiative by the state government to provide financial independence to women, particularly in rural areas. Under this employment-oriented program, each beneficiary receives an initial grant of ₹10,000 to kickstart small businesses or self-employment ventures.
Additional Financial Support up to ₹2 Lakh
The Bihar government has further announced that women who successfully establish and sustain their enterprises will become eligible for additional assistance of up to ₹2 lakh. This performance-based model is designed to encourage long-term entrepreneurship and reduce economic dependency among women.
Empowering 1.40 Crore Jeevika Didis
The scheme is being implemented through Bihar’s robust Self-Help Group (SHG) network, popularly known as Jeevika Didis, which consists of over 1.40 crore women in rural regions. The initiative not only supports existing SHG members but also aims to attract more women into income-generating activities, paving the way for a stronger rural economy.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while addressing the gathering at the disbursal event, said, “Women are the backbone of our society. Through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, we aim to give them the confidence and resources they need to build a better future for themselves and their families. This is more than a financial scheme—it’s a movement towards true empowerment.”
Election Promise or Long-Term Policy?
While critics view the scheme as a potential election strategy, supporters argue it is a continuation of Nitish Kumar’s long-standing focus on women’s welfare, education, and social upliftment. Either way, the immediate impact of the ₹2,500 crore infusion is expected to bring significant changes at the grassroots level.
The state government has also set up monitoring mechanisms to track the success of micro-enterprises, provide business training, and ensure that women are connected with local markets and banking facilities for sustainability.
