PM Narendra Modi welcomes the initial phase of Trump’s Gaza peace deal between Israel and Hamas, praising PM Netanyahu’s leadership and expressing hope for lasting peace and humanitarian relief.
PM Narendra Modi has warmly welcomed the initial agreement reached under former US President Donald Trump’s peace plan between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a crucial step toward lasting peace in the volatile Gaza region. PM Narendra Modi also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his strong leadership during this significant breakthrough.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), PM Narendra Modi said, “We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu.” Expressing optimism about the situation in Gaza, Modi further added, “The release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”
The announcement follows a US- and Qatar-brokered deal aimed at halting hostilities and securing the release of hostages held by Hamas. This initial agreement includes a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, marking the most substantial diplomatic progress since the conflict began nearly two years ago.

India has consistently supported all diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm in the region and addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Modi’s response aligns with India’s commitment to peaceful resolution and humanitarian aid.
The deal emerged during indirect talks held in Egypt, coinciding with the somber second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas cross-border attack that triggered the ongoing conflict. Both Israel and Hamas have confirmed the terms of the agreement, leading to celebrations among hostage families in Israel and cautious optimism among Palestinians in Gaza.
Hamas has reportedly committed to releasing all 20 living hostages within days, while Israel plans to begin withdrawing forces from most of Gaza. However, several challenging issues remain unresolved, including the disarmament of Hamas and the future governance of Gaza.
This peace initiative, based on a 20-point framework proposed by Trump, could bring the warring parties closer than ever to ending a devastating war that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, widespread destruction across Gaza, and regional instability involving countries like Iran, Lebanon, and Yemen.
The agreement has sparked hope across the Middle East and beyond, with celebratory gatherings marking a potential turning point in one of the most protracted and complex conflicts in recent history.
